Welcome to the issue of the year - Season Preview. When the editorial staff began planning, two words came to mind: elegance and sophistication. To incorporate our theme into the issue, we asked photographers Kara Starzyk and Gina Fontana to shoot five of the community's more well-known and established non-profits. Each organization selected their premiere event of the Season to highlight. The shoots took on a life of their own, as you will see in the coming pages.
Speaking of portraits, Kara Starzyk shot our first-ever fashion cover at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale - the perfect backdrop. Model and Fort Lauderdale native Katie Rush looked radiant in a Monique Lhuiller provided by Neiman Marcus Fort Lauderdale. Behind-the-scenes, there was an on-site crew including up-and-coming Stylist Cristina Padrón Ladin of LIVE-COUTURE; Hair Stylist Hannah Ladin; and Make-up Artist Casey Coleman. Kara's interpretation of our theme translated into fashionable art.
While we are on the topic of fashion, it extends its colorful reach into "Social Diaries." Both Assistant Editor Meredith Clements and I are afforded the wonderful opportunity to attend many glamorous events during the height of Season. With that said, why not parlay it into a fun fashion shoot? So, we did and solicited the expertise of Padrón Ladin. What's a Society girl to wear? Well, she had fashionable input, and styled us in cocktail and formal dresses, both by Nicole Miller. Our unique accessories and gowns were provided by the oh-so chic boutique Blue on Las Olas (www.blueislandstore.com) where you can find all of our apparel.
